Hi Mollie. I lead a non profit in Chicago which works with inner city kids. My nephew Robert Bassill, is a Band and Orchestra teacher at Lake Forest High School. Perhaps you are acquainted.
I've been talking to him about enlisting music programs in affluent areas to do education concerts throughout the year that draw attention, and raise money, to fund tutor/mentor programs serving kids in high poverty areas of the city or suburbs. Using the arts and music to raise awareness and support engagement could be a great way to make music more meaningful to many kids. If you're interested in the idea I'd love to help you develop it.
I hope you're still interested in the idea I presented to you in June. There's a great need to connect potential donors in affluent areas with inner city non profits offering tutoring/mentoring.
