I work at Wesley College in Melbourne Australia and currently lead the implementation of Curriculum Mapping on the three campuses of the school- P-12. I have been Head of Information and Library services and as such we have an articulated E-strategy incorporating the delivery of streaming video, multimedia in curriculum, online resources, and our newer projects include e-texts and e-readers, and implementation of a discovery platform that integrates catalogues, online resources and syndetics for hardcopy materials. We are also looking at creating an e-textbook/resources environment for our students, for a range of reasons including sustainability.
Hi, Wilma. I'm taking this belated opportunity to welcome you to Heidi Jacobs' CMI Imagineering Group here on Classroom 2.0. I've been a real beneficiary of my 6 year relationship with Heidi, and am a contributor to her newest book - Curriculum 21: Essential Education for a Changing World (available in December). I also had an opportunity to share my theme of "five socio-technology trends that change everything in learning and teaching" at the recent CMI Retreat held by Heidi. While it may be somewhat difficult to follow without a "soundtrack," here's a link to my presentation at the Retreat.
You can learn more about my history and professional activities at my LinkedIn profile. I'm spending a lot of time in China these days. Perhaps we'll have a chance to meet one way or another. I look forward to it.
Wilma,
I just caught up with you here! Do you know about the Cloud Institute? go to their web site. I think they are doing some really good stuff with sustainability. Nice pix of you! Bena
In the "small world" department, you make reference to "Action Research" in your recent CMI Imagineers Group Wall post. It just so happens that my home university in northwest China, Ningxia Teachers University, has become a leader in the Chinese university system in Action Research-based teacher development, with the help of Dr. Moira Laidlaw from the University of Bath (UK). Here's a link to some of the work done in Action Research by teachers and leaders at Ningxia Teachers University.
Next summer, we (New School Student Ambassadors, Inc.) will take 20 US language teachers (Mandarin) to northwest China for a 6 week Intensive Language Summer Institute Training program for language and cultural immersion. Ningxia Teachers University is our host university for the program. Here's a link to a narrative about Ningxia Teachers University and its Act..., and a link to a sample week schedule for the 2010 Intensive Language Summer Institute Training program.
I'd love to share ideas with you about Action Research and how it might intersect with the objectives of Heidi's group. (I'm a contributing author, by the way, to Heidi's soon-to-be-released book, Curriculum 21: Essential Education for a Changing World.)
