About Me
I teach fifth grade and during this last year I have integrated a computer learning center in my classroom using Edubuntu LTSP. My knowledge in technology has grown exponentially within the past fourteen months. My goal is to target California Academic Content Standards through the use of technology and provide my students with opportunities to work with technology that is not available at home. My students love their lab and are engaged in learning.

I have a variety of interests. I enjoy hiking and fly fishing. I play the saxophone, flute and currently teaching myself how to play guitar and bass. I love jazz, soul, classic rock, and flamenco guitar music.

I love Linux and I think I am becoming a computer geek. I am a scrounge, finding computers in alleys, taking dead computers from friends and rebuilding them. Since Linux runs on virtually anything, I have been pretty successful this year. Lately it seems like people just give computers to me because they know that I will recycle them and use them at my school. In fact, I have introduced to ABC Unified School District its first Open Source Linux Terminal Server lab. We now have three LTSP classroom computer labs at my school. It seems as though our movement is beginning to grow.

    Hey Joel,

Hope you're well. If it's okay with you, I'd like to use your website in a presentation I'll be giving the board and tech committee. Do you have any thoughts regarding nComputing?

AV Linux 4 installed, but I could not get any sound from CD's, youtube, etc. I also could not get the midi keyboard working; admittedly I do not understand MIDI or JACK or those things. I tried ubuntustudio and the sound worked on that out of the box, and the M-Audio worked in LMMS which I thought was pretty cool.

I still do not know how to change from different types of keyboard sounds, currently i'm stuck on organ, but at least it works and my kids and I can mess around.

thanks for the help, if I make any great progess I will keep you posted.
