I am a professor emeritus at Western Michigan University. My professional interest is school reform. I chair the CoSN International Committee and am currently principal investigator for a CoSN MacArthur project dealing with Web 2.0 in schools
I hope you enjoy the community! By the way, I'm reading an excellent paper published by the MacArthur Foundation:
Confronting the Challenges of Participatory Culture: Media Educati.... They make a very interesting case for media education to address three challenges for students who are deeply engaged online:
1. the participation gap--unequal access to the experiences that shape life online and in social networks today.
2. the transparency gap--helping students reflect on what they experience.
3. the ethics challenge--understanding the public nature of what students create and post online.
With your interest in web 2.0 technologies and schools, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based, have a bunch of features and free basic service.
