I used to be an elementary teacher in Taiwan but now I'm a full-time student in University at Buffalo. I'm studying in TESOL program - Teaching English to the speakers of other languages.
I found out how china is fairly divided. The students taught me that people from Taiwan feel they should be called Taiwanese instead of Chinese, and would not dare to associate themselves. This cultural phenomenon causes friction between neighboring parts of the country.
