I coordinate the Certificate of Teaching Mastery program at Teachers Without Borders, an international nonprofit organization that supports teacher leaders, worldwide, with professional development opportunities and tools that connect them with information and each other so that they may play a more vital role in their communities.
As a researcher and teacher educator, I am interested in adolescent literacy, and teacher education and development, with a specific focus on practitioner inquiry and communities of practice.
My future research plans are to build on the foundations of my PhD research to further explore the effectiveness and impact of computer supported learning environments and knowledge building in online communities both in teacher professional development and adolescent literacy. Given the focus of my doctoral research, I have a particular expertise and interest in activity theory and cognitive apprenticeship models.
Great presentation at Educon. You really got me thinking about how I am using technology and how I can improve that usage. It was definitely the best one I attended. Keep up the good work.
I'm taking a Master's in Instructional Media through Wilkes University. Would you be interested in speaking to a group of us who meet online on Tuesday nights? If yes, please reply to mshellman@telus.net.
