14:23 Introduction of the Dinosaur

An amusing version of a dinosaur was introduced to the audience. The creators chose to bring the audience into the dinosaur’s story by making it cute and almost dog-like. They discussed actual science facts about the creature, while it played with its surroundings. The music was atmospheric and “jungle”-like, and the stage lighting was dark, which made me feel ready for an exotic tale. They continued to juxtapose science facts with funny dinosaur…


Wesch – Thinking Differently, Doing Differently

Michael Wesch’s video was provocative, intelligent and compelling in it’s scope. His statistics helped substantiate his research and experiences, while also raising awareness to the radical shift in our social and educational environments. He focused on the effects of new media on students, and on our ability to successfully teach them. I have quoted several of his most striking observations below.  I thoroughly enjoyed this TED Talk. Mr. von Ahn had so many great stories to share. His work has culminated in two equally impressive projects. The first being the reworking of CAPTCHA, so

that when you type a word for security reasons, you are in fact deciphering a word that OCR didn’t read correctly. And that the OCR/word deciphering process is part of a huge book digitization project! Just brilliant.…
