Masters student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education
About Me
I am an international student from London, UK so rather new to the overwhelming world of American college life. Having said that, I am already enjoying the challenges posed by studying at HGSE, and hope that I will retain this positive frame of mind all year, (ask me again at Christmas)!
Before HGSE, I was teaching English at a challenging Secondary School in East London as part of the 'Teach First' program, which is the British equivalent to 'Teach for America'. I absolutely loved teaching, but found that there were many persistent problems not being addressed; from school resources, to teachers' salaries to provision for EAL and SEN learners, and everything in between. Clearly these issues persist in most educational environments to a greater or lesser extent. I decided to apply to study International Education Policy because I plan to set up schools in developing countries in the future, and would like a firm grounding in how to analyse and write effective policy. I would also like to explore the problems I confronted when teaching and develop some ideas about how to solve these problems.
I am keen to make friends at HGSE, and hope that my typically British cynical outlook don't put people off! I really enjoy jogging and cooking, and am currently addicted to Doris Lessings novels.

Hope you're enjoying the winter break. I was wondering if you have any 2mdary education contacts who would be interested in participating in a nationwide Vocab Video Contest @ MIT. We're trying to get the word out as much as possible because the more videos we get, the more effective we'll be!
You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
