What happens to traditional educational institutions when learning also takes place on a vast range of Internet sites, from Pokemon Web pages to Wikipedia? This report investigates how traditional learning institutions can become as innovative, flexible, robust, and collaborative as the best social networking sites.

The authors propose an alternative definition of "institution" as a "mobilizing network"—emphasizing its flexibility, the permeability of its boundaries, its interactive productivity, and its potential as a catalyst for change—and explore the implications for higher education.
Since computing is the foundation of modern society, a proficient computing work force is essential for maintaining the country's leadership and competitiveness in the global economy. The recent decline in enrollments across computer science (CS) departments and the decrease in student diversity pose significant challenges to the continuation of the nation's prominent position in the global high-technology arena.

The CS education community responded to this challenge with a general critical self-reexamination where the entire traditional CS education system is being evaluated, from the outreach to K–12 education, to the fundamental philosophies behind the curriculum design. One of the emerging results from these developments is the push for presenting abstract CS concepts in the context of familiar real-world applications.
* a policy framework explaining the rationale, structure and approach of the project;
* a competency standards modules' structure, which crosses the components of educational reform with various policy approaches to generate a matrix of skill sets for teachers; and
* implementation guidelines providing a detailed syllabus of the specific skills to be acquired by teachers within each skill set or module.

The key to MLX is it being a place for exchange of ideas. Anyone from anywhere can browse and search the warehouse. Each "package" is represented by a descriptive "packing slip" that includes the name of the package creator, college(s) that were involved in developing it, contact information, a description, links to web sites associated with the package, and a collection of media attachments that include images, documents, spreadsheets, movie clips, etc. The attachments provided are free for educational use as long as credit is given to the package owner. (You do not want to meet our Legal Department!)

The other side of exchange is that anyone who works for Maricopa is invited to share their own packages by visiting the loading dock. There, the Dock Supervisor helps you instantly create an account, and the warehouse aides walk you through the process of creating an entry for your first package.How Boys and Girls Learn Differentlytag:www.classroom20.com,2008-10-17:649749:BlogPost:2012132008-10-17T12:00:00.000ZKevin Chiltonhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/KevinChilton

Eager to capitalize on their past progress, the two created a teaching plan for the upcoming semester. The kids will be in a coed environment for homeroom, lunch, and recess, then divide up for four hours each day to learn their math, science, reading and social studies. But first, Garneau and Gamble need the parents’ approval. That’s where David Chadwell, South Carolina’s coordinator of single gender education, comes in.
"If access to higher education is a necessary element in expanding economic prosperity and improving the quality of life, then we need to address the problem of the growing global demand for education, as identified by Sir John Daniel. Compounding this challenge of demand from college-age students is the fact that the world is changing at an ever-faster pace. Few of us today will have a fixed, single career; instead, we are likely to follow a trajectory that encompasses multiple careers. As we move from career to career, much of what we will need to know will not be what we learned in school decades earlier. We are entering a world in which we all will have to acquire new knowledge and skills on an almost continuous basis."
