Wow, it's been a long time since I came into Classroom 2.0 and added to the site in any way. I have been so busy with other tasks. I started my own blogsite and have been working on that. I have written articles for Terry Freedman and Steve Hargedon. I have interned at the Webcast Academy, learning to produce and host online shows. And, of course, I've been busy with school.

So I wonder now, does Classroom 2.0 still have a place in my life? It was my jumping off point into the world of online collaboration and helped me make many fabulous, lasting connections. But will it still help me with my goals?

I came back because I am setting things up for a class I am teaching on Web 2.0 applications. I plan on having my students begin as I did, right here. Creating a page, taking part in discussion forums, joining groups, and meeting people.

And what I realized when I came back is that, yes, Classroom 2.0 still meets my needs. I can still connect with like-minded people, still get involved in thought-provoking conversations, and still play with exciting tools. And the interesting thing is, so many of the friends I have in Second Life, the Webcast Academy, twitter, etc. are the same friends I have here. So, Classroom 2.0, I'm back and excited to be here! Did you miss me?
Summer Doldrums?tag:www.classroom20.com,2007-07-01:649749:BlogPost:307002007-07-01T15:47:36.000ZLisa Parisihttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/LisaParisi

I have set up so many goals for myself this summer that now I sit here stuck..wondering how to begin. Do I start with my writing program which I decided to revamp for next year? Do I look into GoogleEarth, which seems to keep drawing me back? Do I set up my own wiki, since I've only participated in them, not set them up? Do I contact all my new collaborative friends and set up a conference call to discuss plans for the year?

I'm reminded of an old poem from A. A. Milne in one of the Winnie the Pooh poetry books. The Sailor gets stranded on an island and can't begin to get off because he has so many things to do that he can't decide which to do first. So in the end, he does nothing.

Perhaps I need to allow myself to have a vacation and just enjoy a few days of nothingness. Maybe that will get me moving. Any suggestions?

Summer is finally here (okay in three days summer will be here for us) and it's time to look toward summer ventures. Christine and I have connected with so many people online and would love to communicate this summer with anyone who teaches ages 10-12 and would be interested in a collaboration next year. We are looking to continue using our blogsite, creating wikis, and, our new favorite, skyping and webcam conferences. Any other ideas? Want to be a part of the excitement? Contact us here or at…

This morning, before school began, Christine Southard and I decided to try out our new webcam. So Christine sent out an SOS asking for friends to help us play and we got a great response. We spoke first with Ginger, who graciously turned on her camera even though it was early morning in Kansas (You looked fabulous, Ginger). We played around with the camera and had fun. Then David J. checked in from Texas. At this point, after we figured out how to get David into our call, we realized the…

There must be a way to use the webcam during a conference call. Lastly, David Warlick joined in from North Carolina (Is that where you were, David?).

What fun we had talking with people around the country all before school began. And what opportunities this opens up for us with our students. Here it is almost the end of the school year (one more week to go) and, while I am ready for a rest, I am so excited about next year. I never imagined in September that I would have progressed so much during the year. I can't wait to see what next year has in store for me and my collaboration with Christine.
Web 2.0tag:www.classroom20.com,2007-05-28:649749:BlogPost:229912007-05-28T22:07:06.000ZLisa Parisihttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/LisaParisi

Right before April vacation, I went to a fantastic conference - A Celebration of Teaching and Learning, sponsored by PBS, among others. The focus of the conference was technology and global awareness. One of the speakers was Alan November. It was from his speech that I learned about rss feeds and aggregates, blogging, podcasting, vodcasting, delicious, and social networking.

So here I am, just two months later, feeling exhilarated and overwhelmed all at the same time. We, Christine Southard and I, started a blog site (thank you, David Warlick), did podcasting with our students and ourselves, and joined Classroom 2.0. My rss feeds bring me all the news that I want, I'm still working out Second Life (I just simply don't get why I have to learn to play a game before I can meet and converse with anyone), and have been learning about Wikispaces.

My biggest problem is finding assistance. I am frustrated trying out new sites. Some are easy...class blogmeister was a gem...some are a bit more difficult...wikispaces is doable but took some time...and some are downright impossible for me ...once again Second Life and now TappedIn. I know people use these sites, love these sites, swear by these sites, but where are they? Can't they teach classes in RL so that I don't have to spend so much time learning how to find help? I missed almost the entire SL conference this weekend, and just spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to sign up for a course in TappedIn. I need real people!

Hi All,

4:00 AM seems to be my natural creative time. This morning, as I woke from a sound sleep, realizing it was Saturday and there was no reason for me to be up, I began thinking about my purchase order for next year.

Along with the usual markers, post-it pads, and fun-tak for the walls, I began thinking about subscriptions - online subscriptions. Were there sites I wanted to use but needed to pay for? Groups I wanted to join that weren't free?

And then I realized, that after 22 years of teaching, I feel almost more excited about teaching now than I have in awhile. Thanks to new technology and to Christine (my co-teacher) for forcing me to go online and meet people (it was either that or be forced to listen to her get all excited about each new group, website, person she met - I love you, Christine), I can't wait to learn this summer and start new projects next year. The hard part is waiting for all the equipment to come in.
