Today was the first time I participated in the Classroom 2.0 Saturday Elluminate session, and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to follow along. I have used skype for personal reasons and have always thought that it would be an amazing tool to use in the classroom but never knew where to get more information on how to make it work or who to connect to.
My hope is that I will be able to connect to a few middle years classes who are interested in communicating with a "northern school" in Manitoba, Canada.

I will be talking to other staff members about these Saturday sessions and encourage them to join. Thanks to the Classroom 2.0 team for organizing such an amazing PD resource! It is difficult to find PD that is *free* and available when you live in a small community.

I am one of the fortunate teachers who has been using a SMART Board in my classroom for a few years now, and I am always asked, "Where do you come up with such interesting ideas? Where do I start looking for some ideas for my classes?" One site that I recommend and check on a regular basis is the SMARTBoard Lessons Podcast. Joan Badger and Ben Hazzard are the hosts of the informative podcast and each week, they have great tips and lessons. Check it out, I know you will get hooked on this…

An added bonus to this podcast is that they provide all links and lessons in notebook format as well as pdf if possible on their blog.
I love that they add free downloads to the music they use in the podcast!

http://pdtogo.com/smart/

Our roles will be different in each school, but our common purpose will be to assist with the integration of technology foundation skills with both best teaching practices and lesson design.

The Division PD Blog can be found at http://www.svsdpd.blogspot.com/ for more information.

How can we prepare our students for a future we can't clearly see? How do we deal with the expectations placed on us to instruct and asses use of technology and the development of skills when we have unequal access to the tools necessary to teach?

It is American, which could be a little tricky for us Canucks but when I think about it, a lot of the videos on the shelf are American made. I think it will be worth a look, let me know what you think. Should we be looking at using more online content?

We are officially winding down the current school year and I am already getting ready for the next. I have some significant changes this next year, I am moving up and moving out - up to grade 8 as a homeroom teacher and out to another classroom. New curriculums, new administration, new programming and staffing as well.

I am really looking forward to teaching my first technology classes and am at a bit of a loss as to which direction I am planning to go. I want to integrate technology as much into my classes (English, History & French) as much as possible but also take the student's learning from the other classrooms into my tech classes. It is all in the very early stages of planning at the moment. I want to incorporate as many web 2.0 tools as possible, and am looking for classes interested in working with wikis, skype, video conferencing, etc. We use a Smart Board in my classes and we also have access to a ITV lab in our school next year, I am very excited about the possibilities! Please contact me if you are interested in a collaborative project.

This year, I have really plugged into the web 2.0. I bought myself an ipod and have been listening to as many podcasts as I can. The PD out there is absolutely amazing! We've even started using French podcasts in the classroom and the kids immediately wanted to know when they could start making their own. The students really enjoyed talking on skype with me while I was in Iceland this year.

So while the students are winding down the year, I am going to be heading to Winnipeg, Manitoba for a 2 day workshop using Smart Technologies. I hope to come away with many different lessons and ideas to use in my classroom next year. This summer I will be developing plans for my new classes and catching up on what is new and exciting on web 2.0.
