Networking is the future for educators. Students can gain more valuable information through networking and the information is usually remembered and valued more by the students than information poured out to them by a teacher or parent. I am planning on recruiting members of the business community in our area or surrounding areas to network with my students about various careers. Students could ask questions such as: What do you do daily, What is a good starting salary in this area, What can I… Continue

The respectful and ethical minds bring to mind my basic character education. I feel that this is extremely important for students going into the workforce and world in general. I think students need to reflect on the question posed in the article: "what kind of a world would I like to live in". This goes back to the golden rule of "treat others as you would want to be treated". We teach character education, but do we really teach students how they should act and react in workplace or life… Continue

I think that we helping to educate students who have an eclectic composition. Our students' minds must be disciplined, respectful, creative, able to evaluate and synthesize information while also being ethical. Each part of the student's mind will help them be successful in all of the different aspects of their lives...personally, professionally and spiritually.

I have found that if I allow my students to assume the role of the teacher when it comes to technology, I learn sooooo much! Students are able to multitask and I have tried so hard the past couple of weeks to try to allow my students to venture out in the networking world. I do have to stay on top of the monitoring, but they have risen to the occassion and increased my trust level with them! Teaching Networked Students has changed the whole dynamics of the classroom atmosphere.

I teach the Tech Team course here at Muscle Shoals High School. The course is basically a web design course that teaches students the basics of web design and development with the following programs: HTML coding, Frontpage, and Dreamweaver. We also look at Adobe Photoshop software to edit pictures. The course is a prerequisite to Web Page Staff so it is essential that they learn to work together as a team to complete tasks. For the assignment, I had students work together in pairs to create a… Continue

I teach high school science at a small international school in Busan, South Korea where 90% of our students are ethnic Korean (check out BFS here). We have a substantial ESL population. The attention level of some of these students is very low, which I believe in some cases is linked to their comprehension level. I was inspired by stumbling apon this website that used vodcasting as… Continue

For class today, we looked at different kinds of software and played around with it. Needless to say, it was fun to just play around and learn how to use these different software and see how we could possibly use it for our future classrooms.
For our assignment, we had to use the Kidspiration and make a mind map, which would look like this:
We were to make a mind map about our friends and family,… Continue
For over a hundred years, paper-based test has been the only way to deliver robust, fit-for-purpose assessments of learning. At the advent of computer, e-assessment (Wikipedia definition, e-assessment is the use of information technology for any assessment-related activity.) will gradually get the better of paper-based test in teaching and learning. Is "paper-based test" still irreplaceable? NO. Just look through the… Continue

I love the idea of more technology in the classroom. I know i could use blogs and wikies. But I am not sure how to use it with my lesson resposible students. I hope since it uses several of the things they love like technology and being social they would be more responsible about the assignment. I am ready to try it out...

I really enjoy doing an activity in class that makes them use teamwork and their math skills. I put 4 kids in a row. The first student has a piece on paper. I give them a problem or a series of problems. The work is passed back as each student does a step to it. I allow the student in front to critique the other student work. I do not use technology at this time with this activity. But the more I think about it I believe I could use a series of wiki spaces and let each group work and critique… Continue

I believe most people have a little bit of several of the minds. For example most professions require you to be disciplined. You need to continue to become more eduacted and mindfull of your field. I think its impossible to be an educator and not want to be more and more disciplined in your area. I not only like to be disciplined in math but also education, it changes so much I hope I always learn and grow.

As a teacher, what range of Web 2.0 applications do you need to integrate into your web presence? What are your goals? What are your students’ needs? How best to facilitate communications with your students and their parents? What about your principal’s expectations and/or concerns?
Web 2.0 Applications:
I hope my applications are useful and user-friendly. Students should be able to access and use without too much outside help. I want them to be content-specific. Sites… Continue

I'm just learning about Ning and so far I'm loving it. I haven't got everything organized in my mind yet, but it's coming. I started a Ning site for a grad class I'm taking and have expanded from there joining other Ning sites of interest.

I just found this article discussing the use of Second Life in teaching science. I have no experience with Second Life but must admit my interest is piqued. Curious if other teachers have tried using SL in their teaching(?).

I have been doing lots of research on on-line teaching and learning recently. I have gotten into the habit of downloading loads of podcasts from various websites, putting them on my 2GB iriver media player and listening to them as I walk my cocker spaniel pup around the neighborhood (http://www.edtechtalk.com or http://www.palomar.edu/atrc/FeaturesIndexes/TipsIndex.htm). I'm a high school science teacher and I remember learning about the hey day of German scientific scholarship around the early… Continue
