NCTies 2010

I learned so much and gathered so many great ideas at NCTies in Raleigh this year. I wish I could visit all the presenters at their schools. I can't wait to get back to my school to share everything I have learned.
My first project is going to be SKYPE in the Classroom. I have been using SKYPE for years for personal communication, but I want to use it in the classroom to give our students the opportunity to go global!

I would like to think I am decent with understanding technology. I mean, I use a SMART Board and document camera in my classroom. So I know I have a ton to learn about these networks and I am very excited, since after reading and viewing all the information about them I know how educational and effective they… Continue

Hurry Up and Wait!!

Waiting is a horrible trick that the invinter of time does to us all. It is Thursday morning and tomorrow is my last day as a Special Education Paraeducator. On Monday I start my student teaching internship, and in June I will be graduated with my MA ED in Special Education. It has been a long four years, but it has gone by quickly; from finishing my undergrad degree at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA to… Continue

I. GATHAS AND PRAYERS

Gatha is a Sanskrit term meaning "verse" or "hymn". In Buddhist literature it is used to designate the versified portion of the sutras. Chinese scholars have adopted this word for their Versified

compositions, which are known as chieh, an abbreviation of chieh-t'o, or as chieh-sang,

which is the combination of the Sanskrit and the Chinese. The gathas

collected here are not exclusively those of the Zen sect;…

Why is Allen Iverson on Assessment FOR Learning?

(This post was originally posted on Assessment FOR Learning.)

Members of this network may have noticed a video that seems out of place on an educational social network. The video is of a post-game interview with NBA player Allen Iverson. Why in the world is that on here?

Unhealthy Snacks For Children

Source: Children are hungrier for snacks, study finds By Melissa Healy on (latimes.com)

When American kids reflect upon their childhoods decades from now, snacks may figure more prominently in their memories -- and around their waists -- than meals shared around a table.

The 3 Magicians

This was originally posted on The Freshman Transition Network.

As spring break is approaching - or what's left of it after we make up snow days - I have been thinking back to last year's spring break. I have to admit that the 2 or 3 weeks leading up to spring break were not exactly my favorite. It is not uncommon for people to ask, “How can you be a high school administrator? Don’t you get tired of dealing with nothing… Continue
