Web 2.0 Workplaces

Have you ever wondered what and where the folks at some of your favorite sites such as Twitter, Flickr, Digg or Facebook might look like? You would think that folks from Web 2.0 environments might have a more vibrant, high energy look and feel. I think that the people and the work place tell a lot about your organization. Some places are in high… Continue

INTERPRETING SCIENCE - PROOF

In a school science class four worms were placed into four separate jars.

The first worm was put into a jar of alcohol.

The second worm was put into a jar of cigarette smoke.

The third worm was put into a jar of sperm.

The fourth worm was put into a jar of soil.

After one day, these were the results:

The first worm in alcohol - dead.

Second worm in cigarette smoke - dead.

Third worm in sperm -… Continue

This Left feels Right...

Currently reading A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future by Daniel H. Pink. It's quite interesting when I look at it through the Model Schools lens and how it fits into what "the experts" say high school instruction should look like.

Basically, the big idea of the book is that because of three factors (abundance, Asia and automation), right-brained individuals with mastery of high-concept, high-touch senses will find themselves in high demand in the… Continue

Ready to Get Started

I'm so excited to be a part of this site. I feel I've begun an amazing journey in the past few weeks exploring Web 2.0 tools, but now it's time to put what I've been looking at into action for the new school year. I teach 5 - 8 graders in a technology class--now titled Digital Media. I have my kiddos for an entire year, and I can't wait to explore with them and learn from Classroom 2.0. I have those beginning of the school year butterflies, but this year it definitely is because I'm so pumped.… Continue

Stumbled Upon Textorizer

One of my new favorite "toys" is Stumble Upon. I added it a while back, but never really gave it much attention. Now I find it very addictive and interesting all the same. It's a great place to generate ideas and gather new one. The concept is simple actually. Once you register, it asks for you to select categories of interest. Then it adds a navigation bar to your… Continue

New Beginnings

The start of a school year is a new beginning, more than January 1 in my mind as I try to create atmosphere in the classroom and eagerly greet my new students as long lost family members. This year, I've decorated with inspiration from the Olympics. Paper lanterns and colorful kites. The colors are bold which help set the tone for the year of learning . . . bold learning opportunities.
