I’ve been in a discussion over at Infinite Thinking Machine with various people including Arthus who is “… a 14-year-old student in Vermont who has recently become actively involved in the online dialog
about educational technology.”
Part of the discussion I’ve been having with Arthus and Steve Hargadon, of Ning… Continue

Below is a Halloween Scavenger Hunt I did on a (private) Ning Network that I created for a class Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) project I am doing in my two Planning 10 classes.
The scavenger hunt does the following:

I just found this site in the last 2 weeks. After reading through a few of the discussions and groups I thought it a good idea to join and try to become more involved with the groups here.
I'll be most interested in seeing what other k-8 teachers are doing with students as far as "tech" is considered. I'm in an all Macintosh environment (much to the chagrin of our district's heirarchy!) so will be looking for ideas and apps that work on OSX PowerPC machines.
I support about 100 iBooks… Continue

Two of the three science teachers at my school decided to apply for the e-MINTS grant provided by our District. There were about 160 applicants. 60 grants were awarded. We were excited to participate in the first training today. Each person in our training group is excited to be a part of this program. We enjoyed the introduction into how and why collaborative groups are so important in the success of students in secondary schools. We also agreed that these same students will understand the… Continue

Many people are interested in Web sites such as news sites, community and religious organization information pages, product information pages, medical websites, and weblogs whose content changes on an unpredictable schedule. Repeatedly checking each Web site to see if there is any new content can be very tedious. Before RSS Feeds were available, users would have to go to each page, load it, remember how it is formatted, and find where they last left off in… Continue

I've been thinking about grants. I would love to have a camera and video set up for my classroom. I wonder how I can get one.

Today I have so much work to get done so I will just give a list of things that I did today:
- Shadowed a female student and was very impressed with the classes she was taking. It ranged from jewerely design to treble choir to precalculus to advanced painting and drawing. I have seen two different math teachers and two different economic teachers. It is interesting to see the variety of teaching skills among the teachers
- I sat in and observed the second day of the…

Inside everyone is an artist – often a frustrated artist. Many people seem to equate being an artist with being able to draw or paint. Since most people feel they can’t draw anything beyond stick figures they don’t often venture into self-expression through art.… Continue

I still teach a basic computer application
course (as opposed to working with HS teachers to integrate technology
into their curriculum) and my goal is to make sure students have the
tech skills necessary to be successful in class. I don’t, however,
want to just teach “computer skills” - and teach technology just for
the sake of learning technology. The past few years I have redesign
my computer application course around themes, such as career

Its quite hard to put together the funding for an art field trip to
Milan to see Da Vinci's 'The Last Supper' in person. looking at a print
of the famous painting isn't quite the same.
All that changed
yesterday as officials yesterday put the famous painting online in
stunning detail. How stunning? How about 16 billion pixels? Thats right
16 billion pixels or 1600 times better that the typical 10 megapixel
camera. The website… Continue

My age and my conservatism still go against me and my use of web 2.0. I wish I was more adventurous especially as I want to put some widgets on the side bar of my blogs. However, I dont want to make a mistake as the whole world can see my mistakes and there is no undo button in wordpress!!! I think I will wait for school on Monday and get Jess to help me.
I tried to embed my voki in the backyards blog but despite copying the code for wordpress, it would not upload - just came up with… Continue
