Now that I think of it, I probably could have just entitled this one “2.0″ because this is now what this phrase means to me. I’m not going to go off… Continue

It's my observation now, after spending nearly 20 years supporting education technology, that there continue to be major hurdles in getting teachers to adopt technology into their curriculum, no matter how one attempts to integrate it. I do believe that a fair percentage of them have a genuine interest in trying, but the reality is still today, that only a very small percentage end up successfully integrating technology directly.
-Place computers in open areas of the home. Never put one in your child's bedroom.
-Go over what personal information should never be posted online. Never share full name, social security number, address, location, email address, school name, phone number, date of birth, or real age.
-Ask children to only use gender-neutral screen names like Rocker41.
-On social networking sites, make sure they know only to talk to people they know in real life, restrict access… Continue

I've been asked to speak to a group of college profs in about 10 days. They want to hear about no more than FIVE emerging technologies that support online learning.
This is a wonderful opportunity to make an impact on the hearts and minds of people who can make a real difference in the ways their students interact with them online. The trouble is, we all know there… Continue

I just finished Jeff Jarvis’s WWGD. An excellent, if not perfect, read that I highly recommend to colleagues in education. There are some things missing, however, with his chapter on education. He didn’t go far enough.
I am thinking specifically about the role that certain institutions play in the hording of research. For example, when you click… Continue

What do the concepts of biology, media literacy, and April Fool's Day have in common? Potentially... quite a bit, in fact. Actually, it seems cephalopods of all sorts have been getting my attention as of late.

Ok-it's spring break and I've been up since 6 a. m. Not because I couldn't sleep, just because I like to get up early. I've spent the last 3 hours messing around with web tools I haven't had time to play with when school's in session. Yes, I think I am a nerd. But that's ok. I've been called worse.

At the advent of computer, e-assessment (Wikipedia definition, e-assessment is the use of information technology for any assessment-related activity.) will gradually get the better of paper-based test in teaching and learning. Is "paper-based test" still irreplaceable? NO. Just look through the… Continue

I have been doing lots of research on on-line teaching and learning recently. I have gotten into the habit of downloading loads of podcasts from various websites, putting them on my 2GB iriver media player and listening to them as I walk my cocker spaniel pup around the neighborhood (http://www.edtechtalk.com or http://www.palomar.edu/atrc/FeaturesIndexes/TipsIndex.htm). I'm a high school science teacher and I remember learning about the hey day of German scientific scholarship around the early… Continue
