Perhaps you, like me, have read and considered the power behind Wikis, Blogging, as well as wondered what's all the HYPE about Web 2.0. Or, maybe you have considered all of the many suggestions about what the best tech tools are or wondered if the World is really going Web 2.0. It seems that many discussions on Classroom 2.0 have been lively and provide great ideas on how we, as teachers, can use web 2.0 tools with our students. I had a handle on these topics and have enjoyed my attempts to… Continue
I recently created a toolbar for my Digital Arts students to access the various freeware and cloudware resources we use in class. I also included a directory of engaging educational games and activities. Though it's designed with my students in mind, I'd like to share it with the rest of the Classroom 2.0 community. Here's the link - http://digitalarts.ourtoolbar.com/…
Remix America has launched our newest initiative: "Coping with the Economy" With this initiative, we hope to provide a forum for young Americans to share their story of the economic crisis and enter a productive dialogue with their parents and grandparents.
Everybody has a story. Check out this incredible video made by high-school students in Pomona, CA:
I am a sociologist who studies third party political movements in American society. Due to the lack of resources suffered by these organizations, they have been excluded from the venues of conventional mass communications. However, with the introduction of the Internet, third parties have found a medium that is widely accessible, and decentralized, because there are no editorial gate-keeping devices preventing the publication of contents within the limitless spaces of virtualism, I am… Continue

Palm Breeze Café was originally founded as an informal resource sharing tool for teachers in Florida. Since 2005, they’ve expanded their reach to include podcasts and a TV broadcast. Their catchphrase, “convenient and flexible education,” underscores their dedication to finding the most user-friendly and innovative tools on the web.
Last week, after coming across our software on the web, the teachers of Palm… Continue

Number one: Kerpoof.com
Powered by Disney; students can create stories, cards, doodles, and animated movie shorts by dragging and dropping. Also comes with great video tutorials. [Free]
Number two: ToonDoo.com
Powered by JamBav; they are working through a beta version that allows teachers to create a classroom specific url. Much like Kerpoof, students create cartoons that are commented on by others. Great for teachers… Continue

Okay - Right now I'm at the above workshop at the NCCE Conference. It's been put together by Becky Firth and Kathy Dorr. Check out their wiki at http://techteachingtools.pbwiki.com
Anyway - I thought I would make a link here of all the sites they're sharing so I could easily access it later.

Using TwitterFox, I am able to get quick Twitter updates on my browser as they come across the twitter pipes. I came across this very short post from Chris Pirillo.
Curious as to how my avatar would appear in his video, I (… Continue

I'm working on a presentation I'm giving at the eMINTS Winter Conference about Web 2.0 Tools. My focus is not what they are, but how to use them to encourage higher order thinking skills, engagement, reflection, and questioning. I finally finished up the agenda today, so now I've started working on putting the plan together. In the process, I decided to update my classroom wiki and found the plugins on pbwiki. Very cool!
I finally feel comfortable about my presentation, but have a long way… Continue

I was reading about the Washington DC social media and technology scene and ran across this cool search application called Lumifi. It allows you to search and break down your subject, so you aren't restricted as much to the first 10. (check out the Global Warming demo) It allows you to "drill down" to more results in a very easy fashion. Also other academic research applications for teachers and students, although these are aimed more at the… Continue

So is this caused by a down economy with cut backs or is this a result of less than desirable traffic, revenue models and stickiness? Earlier, I made a post about "Free" services moving to different models including the embedding of ads inside the content and deeper into the application vs. traditional banner ads. That did not sit well with some… Continue

If you want to get up to speed on Web 2.0 professional learning tools and resources in 86 slides or less, preview Cliotech's slideshare presentation. Unbelievable that she was able to capture all of this... reminds me of the song, "We didn't start the fire" by Billy Joel. You can download the presentation at… Continue
