Web 2.0 Directory

Hi everyone, I have recently produced a directory of free web-based tools that can be used in the classroom. I have almost 200 tools listed with short reviews and example screenshots. I am currently on a study break from school funded by the Farmington Institute, Oxford. It has been great to have the time away from the classroom to see what is available out there and I have been amazed at how powerful some of these tools are. Anyway, feel free to use the website to search for tools you may want… Continue

One-Hour Workshop on Web 2.0 for the Classroom and Virtual School

I need to have my head examined. I got so excited over the Web 2.0 tools we discussed in class and the few more that I stumbled on that I volunteered to conduct a one-hour workshop at my school in two weeks. We just had a week-long virtual school after the terrorist attack on Marriott hotel, and the teachers were wondering if there were other ways to make virtual school more interactive and interesting, especially for elementary students.

So I prepared a list, went through it with… Continue

Best tool for publishing student work....

Blogging, blogging, blogging..

So, was my reply to a query on classroom2.0 recently about the best tool for online student publishing. The lively discussion has centred primarily around blogs, wikis and nings but I would like to justify in this post, the use of blogging as the number 1 tool.

A student blog is a far more personal interactive website than any of the others. It may be used for journal entries and for publishing school work across many subject areas. It… Continue

A Great Talk with Steve Today!

I'm almost done with a whirlwind week exploring Web 2.0 with my 6 public school teachers and my own school's marvelous Director of Multicultural Affairs. The crowning moments of today featured a Skype chat with our own founder, youknowwho. I added it to my Classroom2.0 Videos, and here's a link to that :) Steve has some very very interesting things to say about Web2.0 and our ongoing efforts to define and deal… Continue

Finally getting my feet wet...

After spending the last six months actively reading blogs and beginning to advocate for other teachers at my school to begin to try to incorporate them into their classes, it's really high time for me to begin blogging myself. I'm feeling a bit intimidated since I really enjoy reading about what others are doing in their classrooms and their schools, but don't… Continue
