Our Brainyflix video contest just ended, and I wanted to thank you for helping us get the word out. We got 800 submissions from across the country!
That said, MIT was really happy with the results and will let us run another contest, so we're going for it! But this time, we're gonna have kids create Brainypics flashcards - which are images and sentences paired up with a one of our SAT/ACT words. The contest ends May 22nd, and there'll be iTunes and a cash prize like last time. To boot, we'll double the payout if the kids can hit a certain goal. More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules.
Do you mind passing my message along to students and your colleagues again?
Hi Lee Ann. I was wondering if your students would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. If not, perhaps you have some educator contacts you could direct me to. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
I love the picture of your kid in the car mirror!
Thanks for attending the SL session last night- Lovely to have you. Check out last night's EdTechTalk from TeachersTeachingTeachers-- It was a better event!

Wow! My poor little county is just too far behind. Tell me how you have learned to do all this cool stuff and how in the world did you get a RWC? That would just be too perfect for our school!
Hi Lee Ann,
I have played with it here at work with our group. I don't have anyone at home to try it with. I would be gladf to try it with you. I haven't checked Classroom2.0 since I thought it was blocked by OCPS.
Lee Ann- thanks for the comment. That's neat that are in the same county. I teach third grade in the Southeast community. Where are you? I think the reading buddies is a great idea! How would we do it...logistically speaking? I am game if you are. :) Delete Comment
Lee Ann thanks for sharing the "When I become a teacher" video. I saw that last year at a conference where Marco Torres presented. It is so sadly funny. I'm thinking about showing it to some teachers at my school - not sure they will take it the right way.
Thanks for your kind words--our district, too threw the baby out with the bathwater and blocked everything. They blocked ALL teacher blogs, scientists blogs, historian blogs, librarian blogs! Luckily, they unblock on a case by case.
BUT, don't fall into the trap of assuming you have nothing to say--if there are not a lot of tech savvy people in your district you may have to lead the fight rather than just "nodding your head" in agreement. Educate yourself and make the best educational decision for your kids, then go through the chain of commands to fight for what you want for your kids.
I wanted to use flickr and they wouldn't unblock it--I was POed because I found dozens of sites exactly like it--so I wrote to the tech team (all administrators and IT people). They still said "no" implying there was a specific incident in a school. Even though they turned my down, I use PhotoBucket, I felt really good fighting for what I thought was right. I'd do it again. So, go for it!!
Hello Anne, Thank you for your kind response.
My book is already being used as part of many schools curriculum.
You are right it is a very powerful tool to be used for children to help them understand their feeings and what they are for!
Learning to express their feelings and emotions in a safe and constructive way is the key to creating harmony in this world between all peoples : - )
Thank you so much for letting me share with you my heart.
