CC Long,

That is awesome what you do. How did you go about finding a job like that. I mean how many years did you teach before you ventured to say the least in that field that you are currently in? I am afraid that even though i have a lot of tech savvy knowledge about stuff -- it would be difficult for districts to take me seriously until i have a couple of years under my belt. What type of resume did you create ? any ideas and inputs would be really great -- thanks for the lamar uni direction.

Hi CC,

With your work in Technology Integration at your Texas School District, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.

Just wanted to let you know that there is a Tech Director's Ning I've found to be very helpful. http://techdirector.ning.com/

Hi,

I'm sending out messages to everyone I know right now, and this classroom20 network is no exception. (I've also sent this out on other Ning networks you may be a part of.) My name is Alyshia Olsen; I am a 20 year old college student from Olin College of Engineering. I am a part of a group of 6 Olin College students (we're in Needham,MA, and engineering students) who has taken a year off to work on an education related project. Since you are in the 'connecting content and technology' groun, I thought you might be interested! Our project is called AlightLearning, and this is our "short" project description:

Under the assumption that within ten years, the landscape of modern education will have fully integrated what we now define as new classroom media: video, online collaboration, open source curriculum and other web tools, we hope to pioneer a web software tool that acts as a platform for this new media, bringing the power of the web and its tools to students, teachers and parents in a secure, comfortable and innovative environment. Our goal is to have our free software at a pilot middle school by April 15th, 2009, continuing to develop and coordinate with our users to create a product that other schools want to pilot and use at their schools, while allowing individual teachers to implement this tool in their own classroom.

Our project, titled Alight Learning, is currently trying to win an idea competition on Ideablob.com You can find us at http://ideablob.com/3975 . We would love your support in the form of a vote within the next couple days, but more importantly we'd love your feedback and comments. Our description on Ideablob is short, and even the one above hardly gets at many of the issues we would like to take a stab at solving, but at least it's a start.

Feel free to email me back, check out alightlearning.com, anything you like!

Thanks,

Alyshia Olsen

I'm interested in the Intel training you did. Was it for teachers? Did you like it? Did your ISD have to sponsor it? And, one more questions, what kinds of things did you learn that were really interesting to you or that you think you might use?

Hi CC,
Have you considered joining the Elementary Tech Teachers Ning? You may find some good ideas there for your new position.

Hi CC,
SITACT Inc has developed the Moodle Analytics module for dashboard style graphical reporting to track the progress of the online classes. Have a look at the demo at www.sitact.net.

I love the blog and am jealous of all the teachers who went to the NECC. I'm a tech integrator as well in my district w/ a little networking/web design on the side so it's great to read what you have done.

Hello, CC--

Thanks for the friend invitation. And, I look forward to meeting/seeing you in San Antonio.

Any friend of Patsy Lanclos and Kay Abernathy has to be a "top shelf" individual!

I saw your comment on the discussion where we shared our blogs. I was reading your blog when I came across your post about communicating through spreadsheets. My community blog (http://teacheng.us) is always looking for ideas about writing in the classroom. Often we overlook the such modes of writing/communication.

Having said that, I was wondering if you would be interested in posting that article at TeachEng.us. If you are interested, please let me know.

I have to say I have the best job in the world. We team teach in 6 "centers", kids come one full day a week. Gifted ed is mandated in Kansas and under the special ed umbrella so lots of paperwork but small price to pay. Here is one of our websites http://adifferentplace.org, we also do blogs, wikis and major project websites. I'll be retiring in a couple of years after 25 years in the business.
