Student Database Systems

Our district is unhappy with our current data management system and portal. We have several systems in mind including Gradespeed and SchoolTools. My questions:

Does anyone have suggestions as to other data management/portal programs and reviews?
Any reviews of Gradespeed since it seems to be a major contender?

Any input is appreciated,

e-school is one of our options and you make a great point about making modifications. We don't want to have to constantly contact the provider whenever a change is needed to be made.

We currently use StarBase which has many features but lacks a parent portal and requires Oracle JInitiator to use. JInitiator (an Oracle Java piece) is required for it to function and depending on the Java/Oracle updates the program may work, or work with tweaks needed. It became completely unusable with Firefox. We want something web-based that doesn't require additional cumbersome plugins. We have a myriad of other needs from scheduling in the guidance office to tracking discipline files. Is there anything that does it all?
