Event Description

TIGed is offering three professional development e-courses for teachers this Fall: "Project-based Learning for Global Citizenship", “Education for Environmental Stewardship” and "Empowering Student Voice in Education". These graduate-level, accredited courses are designed to support teachers in bringing the world into their classrooms through the use of e-technologies and international partnerships to help students understand global perspectives, environmental issues and student voice. "Education for Environmental Stewardship" is taught by Deanna Del Vecchio. The goal of this course is to develop teachers’ understanding of and competencies in environmental education. Using online and offline resources and tools, we will discuss the critical need for meaningful environmental education, and how to foster a sense of environmental stewardship for students through a project-based, practical approach.

Topics will include:

- History of environmental education
- Importance of environmental education
- Foundational structures and pedagogies for environmental education
- Methodologies
- Place-based learning
- Project-based learning
- Service learning
- Online and offline tools and platforms
- Case studies and best practices
- Environmental literacy
- Developing an environmental project
- Ensuring longevity and recognition for projects

This course is being offered twice this Fall on the following schedule:


- September 25 - October 23, 2012
- October 30 - November 27, 2012
