We are currently trying to give a clearly enunciated vision of why we would embed ICLT ( Information, Communication and Learning Technologies) into the classroom. I guess for people who are involved with this it isn't an issue. However for a number of teachers and school leaders it isn't clear as to why we would need to embed it. Why don't we keep doing what we have always done. Also sometimes we think we are doing better just because we have computers.

Has anyone been through the exercise of actually clearly defining what it is they hope to achieve by embedding technology and in doing so answer the question of why are we using technology at all?

A very important question that you ask Paul.

Here's an interesting video that you may like to refer to:

There's a quote i like to consider from this video which I think may be relevant for your question: "We are currently preparing students for jobs that dont yet exist, using technologies that haven't been invented, in order to solve problems we don't even know are problems yet."

I hope this provides some starting point.
