Must-read summer reading
I always look forward to spending some quality reading time during the summer and am looking for recommendations. Please recommend your favorite educational book and "just for fun" reads for teachers.

I'm listening to Three Cups of Tea on my MP3--I was thinking to myself this morning how much I've enjoyed it since there are 100's of Pakistani names which I wouldn't know how to pronounce---
I mentioned a (non educational) book I'm getting ready to read here. I'm waiting for it to come in the mail.

I'd highly recommend "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch and "Big Russ and Me" by Tim Russert. Both are excellent books - and not just for teachers. Fun books to read with great points about life!

If you have not read Teaching with Love and Logic, it's a great read and I highly recommend it for all teachers.
If you are looking for fun books just to enjoy, Shoe Addicts Anonymous is just a joyful fun read. It's also in paperback, so it can go poolside and doesn't take up much space in a carry on bag.

My favorite book about teaching is an inspirational memoir called Educating Esme about a woman's first year in the classroom. Its wonderful and funny!

I'm sure most of you have either heard of or read The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman. If you have not read it - you can get it for free on audio. I was reading his blog today and notice that beginning tomorrow, and running through August 4th, Farrar, Straus and Giroux and Macmillan Audio will be offering the audio edition of Thomas Friedman's The World is Flat for free.

Try What Works in Classroom Instruction. It is free provided by the Dept of Education. It is a very interesting and surprising books about instructional strategies.
