I just attended Grace Poli's presentation on the difference the ipod can make in language acquisition. It was a wonderfully inspiring look on how new technologies can really make a difference. She has had students transition out of her classroom and into English speaking classrooms in a matter of a year. With that said, I know the answer to the my own question is yes it can for ESL students, but now I want to know what it can do for students that already know the language. Does listen while reading improve student's reading skills? How are you using it in the classroom? What is research saying? I work with many at risk students and want to know if I should make the investment. I have attached a video clip of Grace that was on MSNBC so you can catch a glimpse of her program.
