Sharing Knowledge through Video Books

M. SESHAGIRI

What do we do with knowledge? Shall we say the answer as “We share”? Because, we share knowledge among ourselves, which means to give and take knowledge. We take knowledge at one end (learning) and give it at another end (teaching).

I am working as Systems Official in State Bank Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India and I am supporting the faculty members at the Institute in developing Video learning packages backed up with audio commentary by using PowerPoint presentations and screen capturing software tools.

Based on my experience, I propose to submit a model of developing e-learning content which is video-based and can be called Video Books. Details about the term “Video Book” is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videobook. These Video Books once developed for all topics of knowledge will be useful to students at large wherever & whenever they are.

In this regard, I also suggest a method of developing Video Book by using Power Point presentations and Screen capturing software tools. The method was described by me at http://one-task-at-a-time.tripod.com.

I am very much convinced about the model and method of Video Book after I learnt about the research made by Richard Mayer (http://www.psych.ucsb.edu/people/faculty/mayer/). Mr. Mayer emphasized the efficacy of animated text/graphic with voice narration in multimedia learning.

Video Books will fall under Video Services category of Web2.0 technologies and can be broadcasted by Video-hosting websites. Interactivity is also possible in Flash format of Video. Many video hosting sites support Flash format of Video. Camtasia Studio software (screen capturing software) has facility to incorporate multiple choice quiz or hyper link to advanced pages at appropriate place within a Flash video.

I have a dream of sitting leisurely before Net or TV and attempt to learn (I am very thirsty) any topic on the earth, Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Botany, Zoology, Geography, Economics, or any thing that interests me momentarily. Can we create a world like this and do sincerely WHAT WE CAN DO WITH KNOWLEDGE, sharing it fully and liberally.
