Looking for a 3rd grade classroom to collaborate on a shared writing project using Google Docs & possibly Skype.

The students could collaboratively write stories using Google Docs. If possible (with time zones/scheduling), it would be very interesting to log into the shared Google Doc to write and discuss the stories at the same time!

Let me know if you're interested.

I have older kids so can't help you out, but VERY cool idea! Let me know how you make out. I might use it with my older students.

Yes, kids can work on the same document at the same time. When you and another collaborators are editing the same document at the same time, a box at the bottom of the screen will appear, telling you the name of the collaborator(s) you're working with.

10 people can edit a document at the same time. Once this simultaneous collaborator user limit has been reached, additional users will be able to view, but not edit the document. However, you can share a document with up to 200 people!
Sounds great Melissa. I have a class of grade 4/5/6 students who would love to be involved. Lets get started :)
Sounds great. I have a group of 4th graders as well...if you need another class let me know the details. Shavon

How many classes are you looking to do this with? Each year I keep "trying" something new with tech. and this year my goal is to do more "collaborative" projects. I have not really looked into Google Docs yet,but may have to. Sounds very interesting. But as you know I do teach 3rd grade. :-)
If your unfamiliar with googledocs have a look at this excellent video explanation

If you are looking at Google Docs and Skype for communication and collaboration, you should also take a look at Studeous (www.studeous.com). Its really easy to use and its free. It has great tools for discussion and even has its own blogging platform with a focus on education.
