I know, that Ning will add a wiki to each Network very soon. There are some wikis available like wikispaces or pbwiki.

I use Wikispaces when I am teaching about wikis and helping educators to set up their own wikis. It is rich in features, easy to use, and I especially like the fact that you can aggregate RSS feeds directly onto a wiki page.

For my own Warlick's CoLearners Wiki, I use PMWiki. This is an open source downloadable wiki that you install on your own server. I started using MediaWiki, because it was so easy to set up, but switched to PMWiki (both are open source) because the programming is less dense, making it easy for me to hack my own features into the service.
We use wikispaces in the classroom because it's very easy to use, well set out and has all the features that we need for the classroom. Wikispaces is also very, very, very Educator / Education friendly. If you are a k-12 educator then you can have your wikispaces add-free! Now that's awesome!
Yes... another wikispaces fan here.

A tip for teachers, to get the add-free for k-12 go to this site after signing up/in:
http://www.wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers100K
Then create your space.
If not when you get your site you will end up having to request add-free by e-mail.

I've used wikispaces:
• In my classroom, http://sciencealive.wikispaces.com/
• For a Pro-D session with teachers, http://startyourownblog.wikispaces.com/
• To create a mock-up of an idea I have: http://fieldfindr.wikispaces.com/
and also as a participant in a book club: http://readingpros.wikispaces.com/Whole+New+Mind

I have never tried any of the other wikis available.
Another wikispaces fan here. Adam and the team are very helpful and support is very prompt. The wikispaces community are also very helpful and willing to share ideas and information. Adding various embedded tools help make the site more interactive. Wikispaces greatest strength is its simplicity.
Another wikispaces user.
Used it for a collaborative literature project between NC HS in Israel and LCC in Montreal.
Easy for students to use (WYSIWYG) .Easily supports student reviews and interaction and media embedding.
Easy enough for non native English speakers to mount their projects
Great and prompt tech support.
Supports Hebrew and other RTL alphabets.
How did you find out that Ning will be adding a wiki? This is excellent news. I am experimenting with wetpaint, pbwiki, and wikispaces. You're welcome to join me at my experimental wetpaint wiki - http://letschangetheworld.wetpaint.com. It's good to know the wikispace preference by so many.
:)

I've signed up for PB wiki and I have used wetpaint. My all time favorite is wikispaces! It is easy to use and has many great features. I agree with Kristian. The support is awesome! and I like the fact that for k-12, there are no ads.
Hi, I think we all know
wetpaint
pbwiki and
wikispaces
And I agree to you all, that wikispaces is a very powerful tool and it´s simple to use.
I´m working on wikispaces e.g. in a project
http://e-digiskills.wikispaces.com/
I think what I like best about wikispaces is the great support I get as a teacher. When I email for help, I get an answer immediately and I don't have to wait long for an answer. I have used this site for training teachers tool
I have tried out a number of wikis. I like Wikispaces because they give up to 1Gb space for educational wikis and say that they can give you more room if you put a good case to them. My main wiki is hosted with them at:
http://educationalsoftware.wikispaces.com

If you go to the section on wikis, I have tutorials that I have made for wikispaces and pbwiki.

I have also tried out Zoho wiki, Pbwiki, Wetpaint, and TiddlyWiki. These are all good options. I like the formatting options available in PBwiki (such as properties of tables) but they don't give as much space as wikispaces. Zoho wiki looked at being a strong contender with even more formatting options than Pbwiki but I do not like the way the pages are listed in the navigation bar. Wetpaint has many attractive templates to use and I plan to explore this wiki further. TiddlyWiki uses a very interesting concept of opening and closing sections of text - hard to explain - you'd need to try it for yourself.
Thanks again for your expert knowledge you told us. I will come back asking for your advice regarding wikis. Much power to you!
Definitely worth trying!Zoho wiki http://wiki.zoho.com it has a wysiwyg editor which also enables embedding, there are various levels of sharing including no access to people who are not on the member list. I have found it very user friendly - much easier and clearer than PBwiki for instance.
Another plus for me is that the editor lets me access the source of a page where I can then align my Hebrew text to the right.

Zoho have some very useful applications - definitely worth checking out.

There is a hosted version of TiddlyWiki at http://tiddlyspot.com (as opposed to other wikis Tiddlywiki is a personal wiki - more of a personal notebook)
