I so agree. I started a non-profit called LitWorld (litworld.org) to advocate for this kind of access. I believe that we are in an incredible moment in history right now, where it may be entirely possible for all children to learn to read and write, but they have to have access: access to print. Thank you for sharing.
Hello to everyone! My name is Gary Bates, and I am the InACCESS (1:1 computing) program coordinator for the Indiana Dept. of Education. We have 170+ high schools using Linux OS and Open Source software in high school English classrooms to demonstrate how schools can utilize 1:1 computing in an efficient and affordable way.
Welcome, I'm sure you will learn a lot. There are lots of smart people stopping in.
Welcome, Gary. Our high school (Wawasee) is one of the schools that has benefited from the 1 to 1 grants. I wish we could get the computers in the foreign language rooms also. ;-)
~Julie, German teacher at Wawasee High School
Hi, Julie,
I've been to Wawasee, and good things are being done there. Computers in foreign language make a lot of sense. I saw what the French teacher was doing with Alice and was quite impressed.
Our French teacher is probably the teacher whose students use the most technology. I'm stealing ideas from her constantly. We're envious of the 1:1 labs the LA classes have. Oh what we could do if we had those! I'll add that to my wish list.
My name is Bruce and I am the Technology Director at a boarding school, Cushing Academy, in Ashburnham, MA. I am looking for ways and sites for our faculty to connect with others in 9-12 classrooms. I have been reading and participating in my own personal learning networks for a number of years. I am looking to find ways to share what our teachers and faculty are doing in the exciting school where I work. Cheers and nice to be here!

You will learn from a lot of smart people here!!
Hi I'm Barbara,
I teach in the UK I am a primary school teacher but I only teach ICT and Spanish. I am also responsible for International Education and thought that a ning might be a brilliant way of working together on things and a natural extension to blogging
Hi Barbara - nice to see someone else from the UK here!

I teach at a university - until recently on our QTS (Primary) course but now with a remit to expand e-learning across the institute - but always interested in what is happening in primary schools.

Hi All! I am a graduate student from C.W. Post. I am beginning to create my first global collaboration project. We have a third grade class from New York and would like to include other students from around the world. As our first activity we are looking for teachers and their classes to participate by submitting photos depicting their cultures. For each photograph or scanned drawing we would like to have a caption describing the photo. How can I get some other teachers and students involved in the project? Any suggestions. I've already created a ning network. It's url is http://culturesharecollaboration.ning.com

THANKS!!!
