Hello. I am not sure if there is a discussion out there for computer lab teachers yet. If not, I would like to start one so we can bounce ideas and resources off each other. I spent my first year teaching as a computer lab teacher. At first I was hesitant because I thought I would be a classroom teacher. Now, I love it and feel I am in the right place at the right time.

This September I start my second year only this time i am at a Chicago Public School with 600+ students. I have a lot of work to do to prepare and would love to talk with anyone about tips, tricks, what to avoid, etc.

Thanks,
Jeremiah Olson

Hi Jeremiah,

I teach computers in an elementary school environment.I was a classroom teacher for 6 years prior, but this is my 2nd year in computers. I teach 500 students grades 1 - 6. Its tough!!! i find myself online CONSTANTLY trying to find new and creative things to do. Mainly so I don't die of boredom! ikeepbookmarks.com has some great sites/activities that you can appropriate!

Good Luck!

Hi!

So glad this thread has some new action. I teach computers/technology to K-5. I am a certified elementary education teacher who was lucky enough to get my dream job!

Please check out my website www.mrscogginsclass.com. I only list my current assignments, but maybe you can find something useful!

Thanks,
Amber
Aloha!
I am so glad I found this site! Currently I am the tech director and teach computers to 7th and 8th graders at an all boys school in Hawaii. In the summer I teach the high school computer course. My MS classes focus on typing skills, Internet saftey and proper use of technology, the high school course is a little bit of history, a lot of MS Office and a unit on technology and ethics (intellectual property rights). I'd like to add more advanced courses to the curriculum but that's easier said than done.
Free resource for science teachers using case studies is TELS, located at http://wise.berkeley.edu/. This was funded by National Science Foundation (NSF) and many universities around the country.

Create a free account and then log in and check out the projects. You can use one or all teh projects with your classes and most are based on National Standards. I have used this for the last three years with my biology classes and they have enjoyed it and learned too.

If you need any help with it let me know, Jack
Since we have some new activity on this thread, it would be great if everyone could join the group for Computer Lab teachers here. We could share lessons, ideas, etc.

Hope to see you there!
Robin,
Welcome! You won't believe this, but I think you are in my area (Mobile). Am I right? Contact me on my page!
Also, please join this group.
Thanks,
Amber
If you are in a public school, try Lunarpages.com -- click on the link at the bottom right of their homepage.

Thanks! Thompson Computer Services hosts mine. I used to work there! I am at Collier Elementary now :)
Have you ever thought about creating a Ning community like this one? Not sure if that would serve your purpose.
Oh, wow! I did my student teaching at Allentown. Great school. Would love to do something with your group. I have been wanting to do a Voicethread of some sort. If you have any ideas please let me know.
GREAT WIKI! Still poking around...
