My colleagues and I have spent some time recently with Social Studies teachers from 2 other local high schools as part of a professional development day.
Our topics for discussion were: Differentiated Instruction, Homework issues (getting quality from the kids, in some cases just getting it done) Essay writing, & curriculum maps.
So I thought I would see what the people here felt about any or all of those topics.

I am really curious to see what responses you get on the homework issue. When we homeschooled our oldest daughter, the lack of evening homework was one of the unexpected, but great, bonuses. I have a funny, tentative conclusion about homework recently: it's about helping the parents model learning. At least for me, my daughter's needing help with quadratic equations forced me to learn some math that I'm not sure I ever really understood. Wahoo!
