I have absolutely fallen in love with sketchcasting; it just seems the most intuitive tool ever for anyone who spends a portion of their lives giving presentations - whether to children or to adults. It's a bit hard to expain, but here is my first sketchcast to give you an idea of what it's about.

Are you as excited about this as I am? I'd love to hear some comments - pro or anti.

That is remarkable. I've often tried to explain the Schieffen Plan used by the Germans in World War I. It turns my black board into a jumble of lines and arrows, and the kids get confused. I then wipe everything off, and show it all to them again, but more slowly. This would be a great aid to something like that. They could watch this battle plan diagramed out as many times as they want at their own speed.

I like this concept.
Isnt this tool really neat!..... and its very powerful on an interactive whiteboard !: http://rich.greenbush.us/index.php?entry=entry070925-165310 -- here is my sketchcast channel http://sketchcast.com/rssinfo/?feed=/rss/richwhite

Another very powerful tool you may appreciate is http://www.skrbl.com --- very similar , except real time multi user and image import functionality !

Just wanted to show that the sketchcast could be embedded here. :)

This is pretty cool way to convey information.
Another way to do this live is to use http://www.imaginationcubed.com/
Nice tool. I'll have to spend some time with it. I can see this having some interesting possibilities. Thanks for sharing!
I'm sorry to say that I'm not on board with this yet. To me, it's just a washed down way to liven up an audio message by trying to draw pictures while you're talking. If I decide that combining audio and visual media is the most effective way to convey information, I think there are other more effective visual media to use instead of simple sketches.

In summary, there is no shortage of wonderful visual media available and there is no shortage of applications you can use to combine this more effective visual media with your audio voiceover.
I should have watched your mathematics example before posting. It was great!

I think you provide a great example of using Sketchcast in a way that would allow you to quickly place in your blogging software. I would normally use a Smart Board for doing a math example like this since I can control my writing a little better (I really struggle trying to write with the mouse) but Sketchcast eliminates a few of the steps needed to prepare a presentation for the web. I would imagine it would be an easier process for the average teacher. Thanks for sharing!

It is the very simplicity of Sketchcast that I have fallen in love with. A while back I did a presentation on a similar theme using Flektor. Flektor is fantastically powerful, but it took me half a day to put together a 5-min presentation and I am really not convinced it makes the point any better than the sketchcast, which took about an hour including rehearsal. I think this is a fair test of the two sites as in both cases it was my first attempt. Anyhow, decide for yourself:

You rock Ian! I loved both your presentations - they communicate so powerfully. I've signed up and I'm playing. I'd like the option to import a graphic as my subject is music and being able to drop the stave in would be really helpful, but like any new service it will probably get updates.
Thanks for the encouragement, Pete! Dropping in images would be interesting; I guess you would have to upload them ahead of time then hold them on a pasteboard. I might worry that this would lead Sketchcast towards being just another multimedia compiler, instead of the free and spontaneous tool it is now. I would love the workspace to be a bit bigger, though.
Hi Ian, following on from our previous thread, I follwed up a few more of yours and came across this one on sketchcasting......and it's amazing! It's so fun and I think it could have profound implicaitons in the education sphere. Thanks for the intro to this tool. I have created a few sketchcasts too, so please visit http://sketchcast.com/view/BnT0cRC where I have sketched my version of how Taecanet helps the teacher population. Read the description on the side for full understanding. The artwork is shocking, but I love it anyway. Cheers
Ian,
I loved your Sketchcast! Your voice is perfect for this medium------both soothing and engaging. (Hey, maybe it's just your accent! ) In any case, I think this would work well in my classroom of urban kids in New York City.

I'll have to check this out.
