Opening a discussion with a video segmment, then posing a real-life math question, as opposed to the more traditional practice of presenting a word problem.
A great example of of integrating technology with teaching and learning is the multi-formated Social Studies curriculum. Being able to use the content material at the computer thru the read and listen components of the text is a fantastic tool which engages the students, in a way never before possible with just the text book, it also allows for self-paced learning and reading improvement!
learned so much!
Well put.
This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for!
Make it exciting for your students - get them involved in competitions!

The ones offered by Studica Skills are completely free (of cost or commitment to buy anything) and open to any grade and skill level.

There are more than 100 competitions, students can enter as many different competitions as they'd like, and even students who don't think they'll make it to the finals can qualify for random monthly giveaways. It's really easy to incorporate any of these challenges into a curriculum, either as group projects, individual assignments or extra credit. This is our third year for the competitions, and it's nice to see the students getting excited about seeing their work on the web. We also give them assistance "pimpin' their pages" in an effort to get them more views and votes. The prizes are mostly software-based, but there is cash and a scholarship to be won as well.

I'm the Studica Skills Specialist, Karmyn.
I'll be happy to hook you up with free teacher kits - just drop me a line!
