I was talking to a friend who recently graduated with a psychology degree.  It had been about a year since she had graduated and she was having hard time finding a job, so she decided to get an alternative teaching degree.  I was a little frustrated with her comment," Well I could not find a job so I just guess, eh why not be a teacher." How do you feel when you spend four or more years getting a teaching degree and then stumble upon people who decide to get a alt. teaching degree because it is convenient?

Well, for starters I hope individuals like this never teach my children.  Having taugth for 18 years in both elementary and secondary, I have had the misfortune of teaching along side colleagues who fit your description.  It angered me to think that others out there who truly wanted to teach, to make a difference in a studet's life, were not afforded that opportunity because one of these individuals got the job instead.  Many of these teachers lack the professionalism to be in the job, do not have rapoire with their students, and struggle to prepare their students for whatever waits for them after high school.  It is a shame to say the least.  for the most part, I do believe that principals and boards of education in my neck of the woods do a decent highering process and look for educators who are in it for the kids and not for, convenience.  The is a saying, "Those who can do, those who can't teach."  I hate that saying.  I think it should read, "Those who CAN, teach!"
