Can anyone recommend a asynchronous learning management system comparison to use in distance learning (besides Blackboard)? What are your thoughts about asynchronous learning systems?

What are the best/ most user friendly system LMS out there?

Thank you in advance for your advice

We use Moodle in our district. I find it to be easy to use and has a number of great resources and activities. The best part about it is it is free.
Thanks for the reply Doug, How much IT and server support is needed to host your Moodle? we are looking for an easy to support and install system without a bunch of IT hassle.
Does anyone know anything about http://www.epathlearning.com/ and their cloud based LMS system? Seems pretty innovative if it works.
We used Moodle, tried Blackboard a bit, and decided to go all out Moodle.

FWIW - Moodle runs pretty well out of the box (with a bit of a learning curve for admin). We found a number of teachers were setting it up on their own and using it with their students - it made sense to have a (common district) installation. For the quick and easy, you could find a web hosting company that has "installation" scripts for various programs (ie "Fantastico"). For example, we contacted lunarpages.com and told them we were a public school and they gave us some free space that allowed us to install Moodle with, essentially, 3 clicks of a mouse. You then had to work a bit at uploaded students into it - but not too hard.

Costs = some time.

As a great resource for all things LMS, I highly recommend heading over to Michael Feldstein's e-Literate blog: http://mfeldstein.com/ He does a great job at covering the industry.

I'd recommend Moodle as well, it’s very easy to use and doesn't use up all that much space with your webhost. It’s easy to install and as Doug already said the best part about them is that they're free.
