AT for Math
Assistive Technology has little resources for students in Mathematics, and I am wondering if anyone could give a real life instance where technology was used to assist a student (not including a calculator!!) for a math unit.
Do you think that there needs to be more emphasis on research pertaining to assistive technology for mathematics?

Would a graphic organizer (one that displays step by step requirements) be an AT or would it be considered an example of UDL?

I am certainly not an AT expert, but think the Mathcasts 500 Project or this type of idea could be a good support for many struggling math students. In this project, VoiceThread is used as a way to demonstrate how to solve math problems so students can watch the process, listen to the instructor, pause and play again as many times as needed. Also, it is a great tool for parents in search of ways to help students solve math problems. I believe that a very big component of setting up something like this would be to include another slide listing the steps, cook-book method, for students to follow.

Have you looked at the information from WATI? They have a detailed continuum of AT tools that can be used to address student needs. http://www.wati.org/content/supports/free/pdf/Ch8-Mathematics.pdf That document does include graphic organizers as an AT tool.

In these days of evidence-based practice, I think research would be good to show that the tools we use are effective.
