In the past I have been a part of several postcard exchanges and my students loved receiving the cards and information about each state. This past year I tried something new. I created a type of state information exchange using VoiceThread. VoiceThread is a free program at www.voicethread.com. It is a way to have conversations around media. This is a very cool Web 2.0 tool to use in your classroom for any content area. Please visit the site and in the browse section enter 50 States Share and my VoiceThread will come up. Or the link is:
http://voicethread.com/#q+50+States+.b155765.i832841
I plan to have my students complete our state, Missouri, sometime in September but this can be done when ever your schedule allows. There are really no limits for this project so have fun with it! Please share this with any grade level, and/or government official, or anybody you see who could comment about their state as a way for our students to learn more about our great country. If you have any questions or comments my email is jalbers@lindberghschools.ws. Enjoy!

What a great idea! Our entire school spends the last part of the school year studying every continent in-depth. I'm trying to figure out a way to connect with people on those continents using Skype, but was running into the time zone difference problem. This got me thinking that I could do the same type of thing with continents instead of states. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

(Oh, and we would participate in yours too, but since we're also from MO, it didn't seem like it would make much sense)
Well I am glad that you could find some inspiration in this. I love VoiceThread. You will find it very easy to use and a great collaboration tool. Good luck!
