Best note taking tools

For next September, I will like my students to take all their class notes using their laptop. I'm looking for tools that will permit them to : take notes by subject (all notes will be kept in the subject folder); have access to their notes where ever they are (so it has to be a web 2.0 tools) and will let them share their notes and take notes at the same time ( synchronized).
I worked with everynote and google doc but I'm looking for something else. Any suggestions ?

To give them "access to theirs note wherever they are" pushed us towards smart phones and ipod touches. Students used them in the halls, waiting for a ride outside school, and on field trips. I asked a group of my 8th grade students, glued to their phones outside of school, if they were working on my assignment. To my surprise they were, by using facebook to collaborate. These are really the every where technology. Some of my students used an app called Awesome Note and would sync with google docs. Unfortunately we do not have resources to purchase everyone a smart phone.
