As I posted yesterday, we have created a private Ning network for our 7th grade students. We discovered today, that when you click on the Ning icon (upper left corner), it takes you to the general Ning.com site. Does this mean when we join a private Ning network, you are also joining a larger, public Ning network? Is it possible to join a private Ning network without joining the public Ning.com? Some teachers are concerned about privacy issues. We also wouldn't our students to be a on general Ning.com network, only on our own Ning network.

Many thanks in advance!

Yumi,

I use same account to access multiple Ning sites, so I think you are right that one becomes a part of larger ning network. I do not think that's a privacy concern though as I have not seen my information popup in any places I did not want/expect.

Are you using Ning to connect with students/parents online - post announcements , evenst etc?
It depends on how you set the privacy for your ning page, your ning is separate from other nings, but if you make your site public other can see it.
