Budget Cuts and Drops in ELL Numbers Will Lead to Multi-Level Classes---I Need Some Advice Here, Please:)

Due to the dropping numbers of ELLs in California and in my district particularly, ELD classes will now be multi-level ones.  So my classes will have beginners, intermediates, and advanced all in one class two periods a day.  I haven't done multi-level since I was in LA and that was YEARS ago.  I will have to use three different levels of Milestones (Cengage Learning/Heinle) textbooks to make sure that kids do well on the benchmark exams which are given every six weeks.

Though I am not in panic mode, I DO want to do my best to prepare for this major change in class format.  I will have access to computer lab twice a week so that may help a bit in differentiating the lessons from time to time.

My question to you is this.  If you have taught mixed level classes OR know someone who has, would be willing to share so awesome teaching and classroom management skills you developed in this setting?

Thanks much!

Denise
