Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Gail has been using social media environments, including Nings, with her Middle Years classes, for a number of years. She has often integrated global projects into her classroom through these social media environments and has developed a range of peer-to-peer learning approaches. In this session, Gail will share samples of work from her Year 7 integrated program, her Year 8 Mathematics classes and Year 8/9 ICT classes. She has found that, by developing classroom programs for students that take advantage of the unique qualities of social media, students have been required to think, create, critique and, often without their conscious intent, become valued resources and models for their peers. Through an 18 month classroom action research study, Gail has found that social media can offer students a creative learning environment that promotes creative thinking. Gail is a PhD student from Deakin University, Australia.
