Hello,

My name is Carlos and I am new to this community. Over the past two years I have been studying towards a MA in Education and ICT, which I will complete in just a few weeks.

I am a language teacher (Spanish) and I believe that the Web 2.0 could help develop writing skills in a foreign language. I am actually working on this idea as part of my final thesis and I would need some feedback from you guys. My experience is very limited and doesn't really support my hypothesis. I tried to do a search but I cannnot find much on the topic.

What do I need? As I said above, tools like wikis, blogs, podcasts, etc can be very powerful when learning/teaching a foreign language. I believe that by modelling, re-writing, active collaboration and feedback can improve the written proficiency of the students. As a teacher, which tools do you use to support writing? What do the students use? Does it work? How do you make it work? How is it assessed (the progress and whether it is actually the use of these tools what helped)? Too many questions, I know, but I am desperate.

Also, if you can point me to the right direction, I will owe you a BIG one.

Thanks a lot. I hope to make contributions and share experiences as soon as I get my thesis out of the way.

Cheers,

Carlos

Welcome Carlos! One of the techy ways to improve student writing in their native language or in a foreign language is to have the students submit their writing digitally and you correct their writing by using a Screencast. Doing this on a tablet makes it easy. I learned about this method from Will Richardson, the author of Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms. He talked about it at one of his speeches and I've used it with my students learning German. You find find out more about this at his blog titled "Weblogg-ed."
Thank you very much, Julie!
Glad I could help. Please share your thesis when it's finished. I'm sure I'll learn a few things about how to imp;rove writing in MFL classes.
