I just started as an eLearning Specialist for a medical malpractice insurance company, and I'm struggling with the writing of learning objectives.  I'll try and explain.

Basically, our overall goals are to educate our physicians on ways to avoid risk (i.e. being sued for malpractice).  The learning objectives we currently write seem to include language like, "The learner will be able to show empathy in his/her practice."  This, of course, is faulty, as we can't actually measure the physician's ability to show empathy; we can only provide the knowledge base that makes showing empathy more logical.

I know this may come down to an issue of semantics, but I really believe that without the proper learning objectives, we can't really design appropriate learning activities.

Any suggestions on phrasing?
