We are thinking about becoming a 1:1 tablet school.  We have a lot of questions about the possible use of electronic textbooks with our students.  If you have any information or suggestions about the use of electronic textbooks in grades 5 - 12, please share that with me.

Carol,

I hope you will document your experiences both in the early years and what you settle on based on your experiences. How exciting!
I too would be interested. I think California has set an interesting and exciting precedent. I hope someone is able to feedback on how well that initiative is going.
Agreed. Where do you get the virtual textbooks? Where can I access open source textbooks? That's exactly what I am looking for.
Thanks!
No idea. Sorry
I found this resource today

I have just come from 4 years of teaching in a 1:1 laptop school; an early college high school. The experience was wonderful and the 1:1 idea is spreading in the district to the traditional schools. In that environment it is much easier to teach project based learning. Textbooks are not used so much because of the endless online resources. Teachers have to be more creative. It is an invigorating experience for teachers and students. I am now in a new job as instructional technology facilitator helping teachers integrate technology into their curriculum. Textbook companies are adding more and more online features. Pearson has mymathlab
and www.mathxlforschool.com. Another online service is www.learn360.com and there are many more. Good luck.
Thanks. I totally agree about the shift to project based learning. However, many of our teachers and parents are not there yet and still want a textbook. The web sites you gave are great resources. Thanks again!
