What are you thoughts on fourth or fifth grade students posting their work on a Google Sites page or creating web pages to display/share their work?

Connect it with a local group. I used to have my general music students make websites about upcoming performances by the local symphony.

By making it a partnership with another institution it makes it easier for "powers that be" to see the value of publishing.
You might check out Weebly.com if you want to do webpages, also you might check Pageflakes.com (ads?)...won't Google Sites have ads?
Yes, Google sites have ads. I miss Google Pages. Thanks for the info!! :)
Our parish wont open google sites, but they did open Edublogs. You can have one page with all students contributing or individual student blogs. It is free and if you need more storage space it is $20. All the bells and whistles is 40 a year, but many just keep it for free. If you go to edublogs.org and look to the bottom right you will see several blog links to visit. thedublogger.edublogs.org is another great first step!
Awesome! Thanks I plan to share this!
