Hi! Do any of you all have any information on what you do with you iPods/pads/portables at the end of the school year for summer storage. We have at least one cart per school. I am thinking that we will update ipods, shut them down, wipe them down, unplug from the cart, and unplug the cart from the wall/lock it up in a safe place. Just wondering if I am missing anything and what others do. Thanks so much!

Hi Christine,
The most delicate and dangerous parts of portable consumer electronics are the batteries. You can find out more about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_polymer_battery#Risks_and_... Since most electronic devices don't allow you to replace batteries or the cost is prohibitive, I'd take extra special care to preserve them.
Another delicate part is the LCD/AMOLED screen. They are very sensitive to sunlight and can be permanently damaged by even short periods of exposure.
I guess the instructions, "Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and sources of electromagnetic intereference" is pretty much standard. I'm not sure how long Lithium-ion polymer batteries last without being charged. I'd guess a couple of months wouldn't hurt but I'd get some more reliable information.
