I am seeking an endorsement to my Elem. Edu. Degree.  I was told by several principals to go into reading or special education because that is where there is the greatest need for teachers.  What do you think, is this true?

I would disagree. I think the biggest area is Math and Science. I have all my endorsements in every subject for middle school except Math and alot of the schools need Math teachers. Most people get the Language Arts endorsement. I do, however, believe there is a great need for special education teachers but reading is an extremely popular endorsement.

I would also say that Math and Sped teachers are not as easy to find. What I think it comes down to is what you want to do. What is your favorite subject/topic? You'll enjoy it more and will be a better teacher if you are teaching an area that interests you. Elementary really doesn't get into specific content until the upper grades unless you teach special education, speech, P.E...If you like early childhood, I know there are many schools starting pre-school programs.
