My district is about to embark on a purchased web portal solution. We have selected SharpSchool. Any feedback, suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated. We are currently in the design process and will deploy by September 2009.
Thanks,
Deb
Support is awesome, though I wish they'd tell me how something was fixed rather than just fix an issue I report. The 2.0 tools are seemingly good, though we've just begun to use them (blogs, wikis, CMS, podcasts, etc.) My teachers LOVE that students have a login and they can set their blogs so students names are associated with their comments etc. As it grows, we may move to kids having their own blogs. It definitely has potential, though the jury is still out for me. I also like the workspaces and file sharing capabilities. Feel free to lurk around and make comments.
Our district is mandating consistency among the pages, so they may seem all copy-cat and boring. But I think I kind of like that it forces the creater as well as visitor to focus on content. It has it pros and cons.
Wow, thanks Cathy for the feedback. That's great to hear. SharpSchool actually used your district as a sample. Whenever you purchase a new product, you never really know. We just changed our student information system to Infinite Campus last year. We're still learning things and finding little flaws in the system. I would love to stay in touch with you as we embark on this project! Deb
We have just moved form eChalk to SharpSchool and have experienced quite a difficult time with the company. It is now November and our sites are still not working properly. They said they would send someone down to look at things on site.....have yet to make good on that promise.
