Flip Camera

My school bought flip cameras. I want my students to use them. Any ideas on how you have 2- 5 graders use flip cameras?

I have just gotten a Flip Camera and playing around with it. Looking forward to doing some great projects.

I have a couple for my high school classes - plus one at home and I just bought one for a Christmas present. I'm a huge fan. They are so easy to use; I think your elementary students will love them too! I have used them in a few ways over the last year and a half. For a basic use, we filmed a few minutes of whatever, then practiced selecting good scenes to make into snapshots, discussing which made told the best story. Perhaps you could compare a video to a story and a picture to just a paragraph. Just this week students are creating book review podcasts. They wrote a script (story, news story, "letter" to Santa, etc.) and filmed each other reading/talking to the "viewers at home." That was fun and you can do it with or without editing! For some projects my students will take the video to iMovie to create a big project. (We're 1:1.) We've used Flips to create commercials and book "trailers" like movie trailers. Obviously I'm an LA teacher! You could have groups each take a part of speech to teach with a video, giving examples or demonstrating the various POS. I imagine something similar would be done with math functions. We know we learn more when we teach others! For special event months or holidays, perhaps students could film PSAs, in costume, to explain who the holiday/honor came to be or who/what is honored.
