I know there are a number of free blogs out there for schools to use. I used Edublogs and WIkispaces this past year. I am in charge of starting a district blog to share information with the community at large.

What have you used?

What do you recommend?

Can I get a free one without adds?

Just looking for advice before starting with one platform when there might be a better one out there. I toyed with doing it as a Ning, but it is not meant to be a collaborative site more information distribution and archiving.

I am sitting in a PD class as I type this, and we learned about educational blogs yesterday. We used the site: www.blogger.com. (It is also available through the google toolbar. It was free to set up and there aren't any adds, unless you elect to have some.
Thanks. I have a ton opened up right now exploring: Edublogs, Blogger, WordPress, TypePad, etc. I am just not sure which is going to work the best for my needs.
I've only used edublogs because in the past, my district has blocked all other blogging sites, even though they use blogger in PD courses to teach about blogging. They open it up for PD, but shut it down during the school day.
Hi Rick
There is a really good discussion going on about this right here in Classroom 2.0. It's called Goal: Elementary Blogging (I think). People have even posted examples of their blogging pages. Good luck.

You can use Google's Blogger for free and you don't have to have ads on it. I use it http://educationaltechnologyguy.blogspot.com/, and find it to be very easy to use.
